Aston Villa managing director Monchi arrived at Villa Park after spending four years in his second spell at Sevilla as their sporting director.
The Spaniard spent his entire playing career with the Andalusian club and then started his management career with Sevilla in 2000. He was their sporting director for 17 years and left them for AS Roma in 2017.
Monchi returned to Sevilla in 2019 and left them for Aston Villa in 2023. At the weekend, his former club suffered a 2-1 defeat against Real Betis in the Seville derby.
On Monday, the Aston Villa official chatted to Spain’s GOL and Marca have relayed his comments.
Monchi was again asked about the possibility of returning to Sevilla in the future. When responding to that, the 56-year-old stated that he’s well prepared to answer on this subject.
“It’s a question I had prepared. Right now, my mind is focused on Wednesday’s game,” he said.
“There are many exciting things at Aston Villa. They welcomed me warmly, I feel loved, very comfortable here with my apartment. I’m happy. I miss many things about Spain, but right now my happiness is comparable to Aston Villa. I want to focus on this wonderful present.”
Monchi joined the Premier League club several months after they appointed Unai Emery as their manager in November 2022. The duo were instrumental in helping the Villans qualify for the Champions League.
Aston Villa face Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League quarter-final and Crystal Palace in the FA Cup semi-final later this month.
