Ajax’s Mika Godts is disappointed over losing Bertrand Traoré to Sunderland in the summer window.
The 20-year-old Belgian has been speaking to ESPN NL, discussing Traoré’s decision to leave the Dutch club for Sunderland, and Ajax1 have relayed his comments.
On deadline day, Sunderland signed the 30-year-old winger and Brian Brobbey from Ajax on permanent transfers, and Traoré reportedly cost around €2.5m excluding bonuses.
Earlier this month, Voetbal International editor-in-chief Freek Jansen aimed a dig at the Black Cats by suggesting they looked at Transfermarkt before signing the Burkina Faso international.
The former Aston Villa man returned to Ajax on a free transfer in July 2024 and impressed for them last season, scoring 10 times and registering eight assists from 49 games. He mainly operated on the right wing, while Godts was deployed on the left wing last season.
Godts explains the Sunderland summer signing had a positive impact on his game and development, and therefore, he’s not happy that Traoré has moved to Sunderland.
“I do miss him, yes. But there are others who helped me. He’s someone who always helped me and kept me positive, because he’s just positive. So, I might not be that happy that he’s gone, but I hope he does well there,” he said.
Traoré has already expressed his delight over joining Régis Le Bris’ side and insisted their project convinced him to pick them.
