Tottenham have been following Gianluca Prestianni closely, but anyone thinking about a January move may have to wait.
As it turns out, the Benfica winger has no intention of leaving midway through the season, despite growing Premier League attention.
Prestianni has already told those close to him, including his representatives, what he wants to do.
Prestianni has made his January decision
That’s according to Record, who also add four more English clubs to the picture. Chelsea, Manchester United, Newcastle United and Brighton are now named alongside Tottenham as sides keeping a close eye on the 20-year-old. Curiously, Aston Villa are not mentioned in this latest report.
Either way, the thing is he isn’t considering a January transfer. Instead, the Argentine wants to stay at Benfica until the end of the season and try to win the Portuguese title.
For the moment, then, none of the growing attention appears to be changing Prestianni’s plans. His priority is Benfica.
Renewal talks look much easier for Benfica
That stance should also make Benfica’s urgent renewal push considerably easier. Reports over the weekend explained that Rui Costa wants talks accelerated when Prestianni returns from international duty.
Record now says that’s also what the player wants. He intends to sit down with Benfica when he gets back to Lisbon and discuss his future with the club.
The negotiations will involve Jorge Mendes’ Gestifute, who recently took over his representation. Benfica want to improve Prestianni’s salary and extend a contract which currently runs until 2029.
So, while there’s plenty of Premier League interest building around him, there doesn’t appear to be a battle between Benfica and the player over his immediate future.
Prestianni actually wants to finish what he’s started this season, and specifically wants to leave Benfica as a Portuguese champion whenever the time eventually comes.
His performances have also put him among the candidates for the Golden Boy award, another indication of just how quickly his profile is growing.
In the end, the Premier League can only keep watching. For January, at least, Prestianni seems to have already made his choice.
