Aston Villa forward Donyell Malen is ‘expected to arrive at 9pm’ to complete his move to Roma this week.

That’s according to Tuttomercatoweb. They report that Roma are closing in on the Aston Villa man after securing a deal for Robinio Vaz.

According to their information, Aston Villa have already authorised Malen to fly to the Italian capital today. He is expected to arrive in Rome this evening. His flight is scheduled to land at Ciampino Airport at 9pm.

The deal was conducted by Roma sporting director Ricky Massara. The key to the deal was the formula. They’ve negotiated a €2m loan with a mandator purchase clause of €25m. Aston Villa have accepted all of the terms and given the greenlight to the Dutchman’s departure.

That agreement came after something of a panic in Rome yesterday. Aston Villa’s efforts to change the deal to better suit themselves had Roma worrying. Instead, they’ve re-negotiated, done the deal and Malen is now due to arrive in Rome this evening. His flight is scheduled to land at 9pm. A medical is likely to follow at some point tomorrow.

Aston Villa transfer welcomed by PSV

While Aston Villa and Roma will celebrate that, so will PSV Eindhoven. According to Eindhovens Dagblad, they’re due to benefit from Malen’s departure as well.

According to the newspaper they will receive two percent of the transfer fee. That means they’re set to net €500,00 from the Roma deal. That’s a ‘tidy profit’ for their former player.

Malen is, technically, a product of their youth system. He joined the club from Arsenal in 2017 and was in the first team a year later. 116 appearances followed before a €30m move to Borussia Dortmund in 2021. Aston Villa signed him for €25m last January, but now he is preparing to move again, a year later
