On Tuesday, Gianluca Di Marzio reported on AS Roma’s €27m package for Aston Villa’s Donyell Malen.

The deal was structured on the basis of a loan with a conditional obligation based on European qualification. The Italian side were offering a loan fee of €2m and the obligation to buy stood at €25m.

That option was conditional on Roma qualifying for any of the Champions League, Europa League or Conference League.

Atlético Madrid’s sudden involvement in the deal drove this new offer and it helped Aston Villa cause panic in Rome. The Giallorossi have dealing with Gian Piero Gasperini’s usual tantrums about a lack of transfers in the last week. All the arrows have been pointing towards them and the pressure has grown.

Now, more developments are emerging and Malen is nearing a move to Roma.

Late offer for straight Aston Villa purchase

Corriere dello Sport report that Italian side are now looking to sign the attacker permanently and do so immediately.

They have offered a deal worth €20m to sign the Dutchman right away and this could be enough for Aston Villa. This package offers less money overall but more money upfront and 100% certainty of a full transfer.

Roma are looking to iron out the final details of the move, as they aim to bring the player to the Italian capital by Sunday. That is when they take on Torino in Serie A.

The newspaper make it clear that this new offer is an attempt to beat competition. This indicates that Atlético Madrid’s involvement in the deal has proved decisive, with Jack Raspadori going to Atalanta from Los Rojiblancos.

There is no indication whether Aston Villa will  accepted this new offer, or if they prefer the bigger package even if there’s the danger of a permanent transfer then falling through.

Decision time for all involved.
