Gambian football expert Baboucarr Fallaboweh says more clubs are likely to join the battle for Adama Jeng, after Chelsea showed interest.
Sport Witness interviewed the expert, and he insists it’s probably too early to talk about Chelsea’s chances of securing his services.
The 15-year-old is with Gambian side Samger FC and has already caught the attention of European clubs.
He impressed at the recent WAFU Zone A U17 in Senegal, where they beat the hosts in the final.
Chelsea already looking at young talent
The Premier League side, under BlueCo, have looked at young talents across the globe. They have agreed to deals for youngsters to arrive at Stamford Bridge once they turn 18 years of age.
As part of their strategy, Chelsea seem to be looking at Adama Jeng. The British media first reported about the west London club’s interest.
Sport Witness contacted Baboucarr Fallaboweh to get his views on the possibility of Xabi Alonso side’s agreeing a deal for the Gambian.
“What I can say is that he will not have a problem going to England to have trials with clubs there. Because, I’ve seen Gambian players going to Liverpool, Nottingham Forest etc, to have trials,” he said.
“With a trial, a door opens. Gradually, now when the [next edition] of U17 AFCON kickoffs in Morocco, there you will see more of him. That’s where clubs can put in concrete offers.”
Intermediate step before big move
Adama Jeng won’t be able to move to the UK until he turns 18 years of age in December 2028.
The Gambian expert believes it’s ideal for him to join a Scandinavian club to enjoy more game time before moving to the top European league.
Baboucarr Fallaboweh explained: “That’s right. Even if England is mentioned, his agent is targeting clubs from Scandinavia. That can give him greater chance for him [of taking the next step].”
What Jeng can offer on pitch
Adama Jeng is considered one of the brightest prospects coming through Gambian football. Baboucarr Fallaboweh explains the teenager’s role on the pitch.
“He’s in an academy, called Samger FC. Where they produced a lot of great players in the past,” the expert added.
“He plays in the midfield. Technically, he’s good. He’s comfortable both defensively and going forward. He can win duels. He’s still developing. As I said, the next tournament [U17 AFCON] is the bigger platform for him to show scouts and British clubs.”
