Nottingham Forest now have an offer on the table for Cuiabano, with Vasco da Gama reportedly putting forward around €7m (£6.1m) to sign the left-back permanently.
It’s a step forward from earlier this week, when the Brazilian club were said to be preparing a €5m (£4.4m) bid. They’ve apparently found a little more money, but still want a sizeable discount on the €10m (£8.7m) purchase option.
So Vasco really seems to have made their move, but the proposal seems to sit somewhere in the middle. It is more than they were initially expected to offer… Yet still some way short of the price already agreed with Forest. Well, the proper Rio de Janeiro way.
Vasco make their move – Forest now have to respond
The latest information comes from Brazilian journalist Lucas Pedrosa, who has a strong track record covering Vasco.
According to his exclusive report, the Brazilian club have now presented an offer worth around €7m (£6.1m) to Nottingham Forest.
Pedrosa says Vasco have made it clear they want to keep Cuiabano beyond his current loan, which runs until the end of the Brazilian season. The player is keen on staying too. He’s settled in Rio de Janeiro and has no desire to return to England at this stage.
The problem is the money, as usual. They are asking Forest to accept €3m (£2.6m) less. And while Pedrosa’s update puts the actual proposal higher than what has been reported earlier, it’s still short from what they agreed with Marinakis.
| Date | From | To | Market value (Transfermarkt) | Transfer fee |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jan 2027 | Vasco da Gama | Nottingham Forest | €12m (£10.5m) | €10m (£8.7m) – Option agreed |
| Nov 2026 | Vasco da Gama | Nottingham Forest | €12m (£10.5m) | €7m (£6.1m) – Offer submitted |
| Sep 2025 | Botafogo | Nottingham Forest | €8m (£7m) | €6m (£5.2m) |
| Apr 2024 | Grêmio | Botafogo | €1.5m (£1.3m) | €1.45m (£1.3m) |
Still, it’s a serious amount of money for Vasco, who are clearly making an effort to keep the defender. But from Forest’s perspective, accepting it would mean agreeing to a 30% discount on the purchase option.
Cuiabano keeps doing his bit
The 23-year-old continues to give Vasco plenty of reasons to want him permanently. He was again among their standout players in Wednesday’s 3-1 comeback victory over Athletico Paranaense, which virtually puts them off a last-minute relegation scrap.
He’s become an important attacking outlet from left-back, with his pace and ability to get forward making him a useful part of manager Pedro Emanuel’s team.
More importantly for the negotiations, Cuiabano has made his preference pretty clear. He wants to remain at Vasco in 2027, and the club have been working towards making that happen. President Pedrinho has previously told him personally that keeping him is a priority.
Well, the €7m (£6.1m) figure is certainly closer to their agreed price than the amount previously suggested. Whether it’s close enough is another question.
Pedrosa says the ball is now in Nottingham Forest’s court. Vasco have put their cards on the table, and it’s up to the English club to decide whether they’re willing to meet them somewhere in the middle.
