Leeds United‘s Gabriel Gudmundsson suffered an injury in the Premier League side’s pre-season win over Liverpool on Sunday.
Daniel Farke started the Sweden international against the Reds in Chicago. The left-back had to leave the pitch in the 34th minute due to a setback, and Sebastiaan Bornauw came on to replace him.
Leeds United came from behind to secure a 4-2. Whilst that’s a big positive, they have concerns over the 27-year-old’s fitness.

Tuesday’s edition of Aftonbladet has published an interview with Gabriel Gudmundsson. He talked about Leeds United’s friendly win and provided an update on his injury.
On the Liverpool win, he said: “We have good things to build on.”
The fullback may not join his teammates immediately because of a thigh injury.
Daniel Farke’s side signed him from Lille in July 2025, and he finished his debut season with 35 appearances.
In May, the Swede picked up a hamstring injury, forcing him to miss the final fixtures of last season. He recovered in time for the World Cup and made four appearances in the tournament.
Unsure of extent of damage
The newspaper reports Gabriel Gudmundsson is unsure whether he has suffered a serious setback.
“It’s disappointing. It’s It was a little feeling, so we’ll see. Yes [back of the thigh], it felt like it,” Gudmundsson explained.
The Leeds United player says it’s not the same thigh that troubled him before, likely in May.
When specifically asked whether his muscles tightened or if he had cramps, he refused to go into the details.
“No, the other one [thigh]. I don’t want to go into that; I don’t have an answer right now. We’ll see,” he added.
The Premier League side have returned to the UK, and the newspaper states the defender will undergo tests to find out the extent of the damage.
“We’ll see what the results are,” the Swede concluded.
A serious setback for Gudmundsson will be a major blow for Leeds United. It leaves Daniel Farke with Sam Byram as the only recognised left-back and could force the Whites to sign a new player in this window.
