Striker Beto didn’t always shine during his time at Everton but has now been backed to turn things around.
The ex-Udinese man was linked with a move back to Italy in almost every transfer window since he joined. Things picked up this summer, as Sport Witness covered how Fiorentina moved for him after failing to sign Joshua Zirkzee.
The striker joined La Viola on a permanent transfer and he has now replaced Moise Kean, who ended up at Como.
The ex-Everton man didn’t start against Torino at the weekend but there is growing belief Fiorentina is the right move for him.
Director offers insight into player
Director Pierpaolo Marino, who was key to signing Beto at Udinese, spoke to Radio Bruno about the forward.
He was asked about the decision to join La Viola. He praised the former Toffees player, offering insight into how he will replace Kean.
Marino said – via FiorentinaNews: “I brought Beto to Italy. He’s an incredibly serious professional.”
“He’s a striker who needs to attack deep, not a penalty area striker. He needs to be used on the counterattack.”
He was also asked about how Beto could replace Kean. Marino went on to point out the differences.
“Does he resemble Kean? Yes, except that Kean is more muscular, while Beto is lanky and more agile. When he runs, it seems like he doesn’t touch the ground.”
Player in the middle of chaos
Fiorentina have sacked Fabio Grosso just three games into the season. Under him, Beto didn’t feature but he finds himself in a bit of a chaotic situation in Florence.
Besides that, he will also face competition from Mateo Pellegrino, who has started all three games. The Argentine also scored against Torino at the weekend.
So clearly, the arrival from Everton has his work cut out. The key now should be for him to play regularly and then find the net when called upon by new manager Paolo Vanoli.
