Club Brugge have been linked to Crystal Palace‘s Romain Esse and Rangers‘ Tuur Rommens as part of improving their squad.
At the weekend, Sport Witness covered claims from Belgium of their genuine interest in the Rangers defender. Derek McInnes wouldn’t want to see the left-back leave Ibrox this summer.
Meanwhile, the Jupiler Pro League side have been keen on signing the Crystal Palace man to improve their attack.
Crystal Palace transfer not going through
On August 4th, we relayed news of the Eagles rejecting an €8m plus €2m bid for Romain Esse, who had agreed on personal terms with Club Brugge. He is their main target for the attacking position.
Three days later, Sport Witness covered claims that Crystal Palace are willing to cooperate and made a counter-proposal to the Belgian club.
Het Nieuwsblad covers the latest on the possibility of the 21-year-old and Rangers’ Tuur Rommens ending up at Club Brugge in this window.
There was confidence the England U21 international would join the club and the operation was ‘close’.
However, they couldn’t find an agreement with Pierre Sage’s side in the ‘final stretch’. In other words, the two clubs couldn’t narrow the gap in valuation.
Therefore, Club Brugge ‘no longer wants to beat around the bush’, meaning they will focus on other attacking targets. For now, Esse has a very slim chance of moving to Belgium.
Stance on Rangers player
Ivan Leko’s side are looking for market opportunities to strengthen other areas of the pitch.
This includes the left-back position, and their plan is to replace Bjorn Meijer. Rangers’ Tuur Rommens and Werder Bremen’s Olivier Deman have emerged as contenders.
The 23-year-old Ibrox player spent his entire career in Belgium before joining Rangers from KRC Genk in January. However, Club Brugge have no plans to sign him or Deman in this window.
According to Het Nieuwsblad, the Belgian club don’t have the Rangers player and Deman on their short list. That should please Derek Mcinnes and the Ibrox club.
