Feyenoord are looking to ward off interest from Newcastle United by getting Luciano Valente signed to a new deal.
Tat’s according to FR 12. They report that the Dutch side want to reward the midfielder for his strong development since arriving at De Kuip.
He joined Feyenoord from FC Groningen last summer and hasn’t looked back, quickly establishing himself in the starting line-up. He’s now a key player in Robin van Persie’s squad.
His current deal runs until 2029, but Feyenoord want to extend it. The club intend to give Valente a ‘promotion’. This would include a one-season extension with a salary increase making him one of the better paid in the squad.
It would also help to ward off interest from Newcastle. Valente is being ‘closely monitored’ by the Magpies, while scouts from Real Madrid have also been spotted watching him. Feyenoord have also indicated that other European clubs have him on their radar.
He is currently valued at €18m but that could rise, particularly if he heads to the World Cup. Feyenoord want to protect themselves, particularly after a Newcastle scout admitted publicly, he’d been to watch him in person.
