Newcastle United are actively scouting Feyenoord star Luciano Valente, with a scout recently watching him against Telstar.
That’s according to Soccer News and commentator Jeroen Grueter. He recently spoke to a Newcastle scout at Feyenoord’s clash with Telstar, and revealed all on the NOS Football Podcast.
“I happened to speak to a key Newcastle United scout yesterday who was in Velsen-Zuid,” he said.
“We were chatting for a bit, and he said: ‘I wanted to see him with my own eyes.’ Of course, there’s no guarantee he’ll immediately take over in the Premier League. I do think he scores highly in many areas.”
Valente has been impressing for Feyenoord this season, continuing to establish himself as a key player for Robin van Persie’s side. This season he has one goal and two assists in 14 games in the Eredivisie.
He only joined in the summer after previously impressing for FC Groningen. There he had 10 goals and 15 assists in 94 games across his three seasons.
Newcastle United the latest to take notice

Now his performances are earning him attention, with Newcastle United’s scouting department the latest to get a look in person. Grueter isn’t surprised at all by that.
“It’s starting to get people’s attention how good he is and how well he’s performing,” he added.
“I think Feyenoord would be very wise to extend his contract as soon as possible and give him a suitable salary.”
Whether Newcastle United make a move, in the January transfer window or the summer, remains to be seen. They are well stocked when it comes to midfielders already, with some even believing they have the best in the Premier League.
Newcastle United have also had a scout at FC Porto in recent days.
