Chelsea are focusing on AS Monaco’s Lamine Camara as a replacement for Enzo Fernández late in this window.
On Friday, we relayed news that the 22-year-old is a serious option for the west London club. Monaco CEO Thiago Scuro is in contact with the Premier League side for a potential move.
Later that day, Sport Witness covered a report from France explaining that Chelsea met the midfielder’s agent, after Xabi Alonso gave his approval. The Blues are aware the Ligue 1 side have set a €50m price for Camara.
Chelsea making progress
Foot Mercato journalist Santi Aouna took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to report that the negotiations between the clubs have been positive.
In fact, the Premier League side have made ‘significant progress’ in the last few hours.
Chelsea are now hoping to wrap up the Senegal international’s signing this weekend.
AS Monaco will face Marseille in the league on Sunday and manager Filipe Luís is likely to leave him out of the squad for the squad for tomorrow’s clash.
Monaco official’s encouragement for Chelsea
The Ligue 1 side have qualified for the UEFA Conference League group stage. Their CEO, Thiago Scuro, attended the group stage draw on Friday.
This gave L’Equipe an opportunity to have a chat with the AS Monaco official regarding transfers before Tuesday’s deadline.
When asked about the Chelsea target, Scuro confirmed Monaco will accept his sale if the conditions are right.
“We hope he stays, that’s the reality. We are a selling club. If we receive an offer we can’t refuse, we’ll accept it, but we’re not forcing him to leave; that’s not the plan,” he said.
“This is the beginning of his third season, the usual cycle we apply to our players. We signed him two years ago; he was young, and he has improved a lot. For me, he has everything to become one of the best players in the world in his position.”
Lamine Camara has a contract until 2029 and his value, as per Transfermarkt, is €40m.
