Celta Vigo currently have Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Fer López marked in red on their transfer plans but have found their efforts blocked by Jorge Mendes.
Nos Diario cover the situation today and how Celta have made the 22-year-old a priority signing this summer following his return on loan last season.
Wolves close the door
According to the newspaper, Wolves have closed the door to a transfer for now and negotiations seem set to drag on for weeks. Talks have already taken place after the agreement for a loan deal in January. Those talks have been ongoing for weeks, but Wolves have remained ‘tight-lipped’.
They’re busy planning for life in the Championship, with Jorge Mendes leading the charge. They’re planning an ambitious project to return to the Premier League as soon as possible.
His plans closely align with César Peixoto, who he represents. The manager wants to see Fer López in action in pre-season. At this moment in time, he intends to make him a key part of his project.
That is despite López making it clear that he wants to return to Celta. He will not force the issue or ‘go into rebellion’, though. He is instead hopeful that negotiations between Wolves and Celta will reach a successful conclusion.
Celta Vigo patience

The Spanish side had been banking on Wolves’ relegation to aid their cause. They believed that the chance to play in La Liga and European competition would convince Wolves into another loan so the midfielder could retain his value. Wolves appear to think differently.
Celta were not surprised by Wolves’ initial rejection. They expected negotiations to drag on for weeks anyway. They are hoping that Fer López’s desire to return can work in their favour.
A permanent transfer is off the cards, as it would likely cost €20m or more. That’s simply an impossible figure for them to reach. Instead, they want a loan in which they would cover his wages and pay a fee agreed between the two clubs.
But for now, Wolves, mostly via Mendes and Peixoto, are blocking the deal. They have different plans despite the player’s wishes.
