Marcelo Saracchi spent this season at Celtic on loan, winning the league and the Scottish Cup with Martin O’Neill’s side. His immediate future at Celtic Park remains uncertain.

He had no future at Boca Juniors, who sent him on loan to Celtic in August 2025.

The left-back played 967 minutes from 27 matches for Celtic and even managed a goal and two assists.

On March 7th, Saracchi’s agent Marcelo Tejera revealed that O’Neill’s side want to keep him is Glasgow.

Earlier this month, Sport Witness covered claims from Argentina that Boca Juniors have been waiting for a formal offer from Celtic.

O’Neill’s side not making progress

Bolavip now cover the latest on the Uruguay international’s immediate future, which needs sorting.

Marcelo Saracchi’s loan agreement with Celtic is until June 30th. With the conclusion of this season, he will join the national team for the World Cup.

Celtic are keen on buying the South American but haven’t made progress in negotiations so far. As things stand, he will return to Boca Juniors after the World Cup unless Martin O’Neill’s side push to secure summer deal.

Planeta Boca Juniors, who dedicate their coverage on the Argentine club, cover his parent club’s stance on the 28-year-old.

The left-back position is well covered at Boca Juniors and therefore, they are willing to sell him in the upcoming window. It’s ‘more convenient’ to get rid of the fullback permanently, also because to make room in their squad.

Saracchi occupies a foreign player slot in Boca Juniors’ squad, and his sale not only raise funds but also free this position. Therefore, they are eager to part ways with him. This should certainly favour Celtic, who want to buy the defender.

Both reports make no mention of the fee needed to convince the South American club.

Celtic in comfortable position

Marcelo Saracchi’s contract expires in December 2027, and Transfermarkt value him at €2m.

The Scottish champions are keen on making the Uruguayan’s stay permanent and seem to be well aware of Boca Juniors’ stance.

There’s been no progress yet, probably because Celtic want to sign Marcelo Saracchi for a fee as low as possible. Martin O’Neill’s side would have an upper hand in the negotiations for the fullback.
