Bournemouth, a relatively young town founded in 1810 by Lewis Tregonwell, transformed from uninhabited, pine-covered heathland into a premier Victorian seaside resort. Originally popular with affluent invalids for its therapeutic sea air and pine scent, the arrival of the railway in 1870 sparked rapid growth
