Diogo Dalot hasn’t been at his best at Manchester United over the past 12 months or so. A possible departure is now taking shape.

The Portuguese has featured in over 250 games for the Red Devils but has never fully convinced throughout his stay. His best possibly came under Erik Ten Hag and things have never looked as promising since then.

This season, he has played nine times in the Premier League, although Manchester United’s injury concerns are a reason behind that.

There have been suggestions of a possible exit, as Italian clubs have been interested in Dalot. With Michael Carrick’s set to take on AS Roma, more has emerged about the full-back’s future in England.

Entourage have received approaches

Calciomercato report that the game at Old Trafford on Tuesday could be very important for Dalot. Roma have been one of the clubs interested in him and the report provides background on how they nearly signed him in the past.

Jose Mourinho was keen on a reunion with him in 2021 and the deal was going in the right direction. At the end, Manchester United rejected an initial loan with an option to buy deal and Roma’s hopes faded.

Next summer, a deal could be possible.

‘Big clubs have moved’ for the Portugal international and Inter, Milan and Juventus are all interested. Roma are also still in the hunt and can make a move in the summer, if they sense the opportunity.

Dalot’s entourage has already received enquiries and his contract situation is also key. His current deal runs out in 2027 and there has been no progress over a renewal.

So even if the player is happy at Old Trafford, a move to Italy in the summer is possible.

Our take: Club should part ways

Since joining Manchester United, Dalot has been a reliable option but failed to impress. Even now, he remains an inconsistent player and the Red Devils could do better than him in the market.

Besides, the summer could be their best chance of earning something from the 27-year-old’s exit. He clearly has suitors and Carrick’s side should take advantage of that.
