A week ago, Belgium manager Rudi Garcia included Aston Villa’s Amadou Onana in his list for October’s international break.

The midfielder picked up a hamstring injury in August and was sidelined for more than a month. At the weekend, Onana came off the bench in the 90th minute in Aston Villa’s 2-1 win over Burnley.

Walfoot reported on Saturday that the national team had consulted Aston Villa’s medical staff to get up to speed.

Belgium face North Macedonia in a World Cup qualifier later today. RTBF report both the 24-year-old and Atalanta’s Charles De Ketelaere are the two doubtful players in the squad.

The duo took part in training on Thursday evening, but are still uncertain. Garcia attended a pre-match press conference on Thursday and Het Laatste Nieuws have relayed his comments.

When the national team manager was specifically asked about Onana and De Ketelaere, he said: “Amadou is doing well; he was also a substitute at Aston Villa. He doesn’t have much match practice, but he’s still with the squad.

“Charles is a bit different. He’s doing well, and he’s been training. But we have to decide tomorrow whether he can play. We want to be 100% sure he can play.”
