Amadou Onana has struggled with hamstring problems since moving to Aston Villa in July 2024.
The midfielder spent 60 days of last season on the sidelines. Injuries have continued to trouble him this season.
Onana has only played two matches for Aston Villa this season. A hamstring injury picked up in August has forced him to spend time on the sidelines.
The 24-year-old is yet to return to the pitch. That hasn’t stopped Belgium manager Rudi Garcia from including him in his squad.
Belgium have World Cup qualifiers against North Macedonia and Wales this month.
Walfoot looks at the Belgium international’s situation, what Aston Villa would have wanted and how he ended up in the squad for the upcoming international break.
It’s claimed the Villans would have liked to keep him out of the Belgium squad for the two matches. This indicates the Premier League club are concerned about his fitness.
The report states the decision to select him was made after the Belgium doctors consulted with Aston Villa medical staff.
According to Garcia, Unai Emery could count on Onana when Aston Villa face Burnley on Sunday.
“He trained normally today [Friday]. He should also participate in this weekend’s match. We will be able to assess him and get him back in shape given his lack of playing time at Aston Villa,” he said, quoted by Walfoot.
