Everton’s hopes of signing Lille defender Gabriel Magalhães have been given a boost, with Paris Saint Germain now ‘a long way’ behind them in the race.
The Blues have long been linked with a move for the Brazilian, who has impressed for the Ligue 1 side this season.
Several other clubs are thought to be keen; namely, PSG, who will be on the hunt for a new centre-back should Thiago Silva fail to sign a new deal.
However, according to Le 10 Sport, there is a now a chance Silva could sign a new with the French champions, who have offered him a one-year proposal.
Should they not reach an agreement with the veteran, club chief Leonardo has identified several replacements and Gabriel is one of them.
Unfortunately, they are now a ‘long way’ behind Everton in the race for his signature, with the Blues believed to ‘hold the reins’ when it comes to the player.
That would suggest in the list of suitors, which also includes Arsenal and Leicester, Everton are the closest to signing him this summer.
They will now be hoping that PSG can find an agreement with Silva to further boost their chances of securing the 22-year-old ahead of the competition.
