Even though the Portuguese press continues to report Wolverhampton Wanderers’ chase for Sporting midfielder João Palhinha, the transfer doesn’t seem so close to happening.

Newspaper O Jogo has a story today saying the Lions are focused on making cash this summer, and plan to sell two players for that.

João Palhinha is one of them, and there are two clubs who’ve been interested in him. These are CSKA Moscow and Wolves.

The Russian side already made an offer of €10m, but Sporting’s intention is to sell him for €15m.

Meanwhile, Wolves are only said to be ‘on top of the process’, as Sporting keep pushing for the required amount.

It’s interesting to see these claims because the Premier League side have been said to be close to signing Palhinha a few times now, as several outlets from the Portuguese press have been saying that, such as TVI24 explaining Wolves were paying between €12m and €14m for the transfer.

So perhaps O Jogo are right, as Sporting continue to work to get the required amount, and there’s over a month for them to keep pushing.
