Wolverhampton Wanderers could be handed the chance to sign summer target Nico Elvedi for €10m, with Borussia Monchengladbach putting that figure into a new contract.

That’s according to BILD, who say the defender’s new contract, which was announced today, includes an affordable release clause for interested parties.

Elvedi was heavily linked with a move away from Monchengladbach throughout the summer transfer window, with Wolves the most serious of his suitors.

The defender had reportedly sanctioned the move to Molineux, as had his girlfriend, but it didn’t end up going through as Wolves’ financial issues stopped them from matching Borussia’s demands.

That left Elvedi in an awkward position as the German club have been reluctant to use him because his contract is expiring next summer, and they don’t want to lose him on a free.

They had made it clear he would not be playing unless he signed a new deal, a disaster for the player as he wants to be fit and firing ahead of the European Championships next summer.

The idea mooted was that he sign a new contract with an agreeable release clause included and BILD say that has now been agreed.

According to their information, the defender’s new contract includes a €10m figure to leave next summer.

That figure suits both parties as it means Elvedi is more than affordable, and Borussia ensure they get a fee for the player rather than losing him on a free transfer next year.

Whether that means he now ends up at Wolves remains to be seen but the defender now has a set price, and a very fair one at that.
