Renowned Brazilian coach Tiago Nunes has named Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes as the player who has impressed him the most in his career.

Nunes is one of the more respected coaches currently working in Brazil, having managed the likes of Corinthians, Athletico Paranaense, Gremio and Sao Paulo in his career thus far.

His time in Brazil has seen him manage a growing list of Brazilian stars, with the likes of Renan Lodi, Douglas Costa and Guimaraes among the high profile names to have worked under him.

The latter is currently starring for Newcastle in the Premier League, having moved to the Magpies in a €42.1m deal from Lyon in the January transfer window.

He’s established himself as a firm fan favourite since, with some reports in Spain even stating that Real Madrid are eyeing him up as a future signing.

His talents have been steadily earning him a reputation in Europe since his move to Lyon in 2020, with him also starring for the Ligue 1 side during his time there.

He’s also now a fully fledged member of the Brazilian team under Tite, a squad full of talent, but for Nunes, the Newcastle star in the best he’s coached.

“Bruno Guimaraes without a doubt,” he told Sport when asked to name the best player he’s coached.

“He is a very complete midfielder who seems to have four eyes. He plays with a camera above his head, he has 360-degree vision.

“I remember, when I had him at Paranaense, that Benfica asked me if he had the level and I told them no, that he had the level to play for Barça, Madrid and Mars if he wanted to.

“But they didn’t sign him and he went first to France and then to England.”
