Manchester United youngster Anthony Elanga has insisted he was unaware of apparent interest from Everton in the summer transfer window.

Elanga broke into the United first-team midway through last season, having been handed his debut by manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer against Leicester City in May 2021.

He did not feature for the first team until December, but was handed a 14-minute appearance against Crystal Palace on the 5th, which started a run of appearances in the first team.

He followed that with a full 90 minutes against Young Boys in the Champions League and was a regular from that point onwards, going on to make 27 appearances in all competitions, scoring three goals and registering two assists.

He’s now a fully fledged member of the first-team squad but was linked with a move away in the summer as a result of Erik ten Hag’s summer spending.

The big-money arrival of Antony meant further competition upfront and it was suggested that a loan deal may be sought out so he could continue his development.

Everton were named as admirers, with Frank Lampard and Kevin Thelwell keen to target younger players that could be developed.

Elanga fit the bill, particularly as Everton needed to find a replacement for Richarlison after his move to Tottenham. It seems, though, the youngster was not made aware of any interest.

“I hadn’t actually heard that. My focus is on United. What happens in the future, we’ll see,” he told Fotboll Skanalen.

“It’s important to have good competition in the team. He (Antony) plays on the right and I play on the left. That’s good. We are all young and we have a lot of games this year.”
