Last week, Alfredo Pedullà reported West Ham United are working to define the operation to sign Gianluca Scamacca this summer.

The 23-year-old was left out of Sassuolo’s squad for their 2-0 friendly win against FC Südtirol on Thursday. The Serie A side’s manager, Alessio Dionisi, gave fitness issues as the reason for the striker’s absence.

“He did a little less than the training volume and we didn’t want to risk him, since he had not worked like the rest of his teammates in the last few days,” Dionisi said.

Despite the comments made by Dionisi, Calciomercato explain the Italy international’s omission is linked to the market, with the Hammers keen to land him.

West Ham, who have been interested in the player for weeks, have made an ‘official offer’ to Sassuolo. It’s also said the negotiations have entered the ‘crucial phase’.

Paris Saint-Germain looked at Scamacca before signing Hugo Ekitike. The Ligue 1 winners made a €35m bid for the former, which was lower than the €40m proposal made by David Moyes’ side.

The English club’s offer, at the moment, is not enough to convince Sassuolo CEO Giovanni Carnevali as it’s stated he wants €50m. Contacts between the two sides are ongoing and West Ham are hoping the Italian club will lower their demands for their star.

Sky Italia state the Premier League club have made an offer of €35m for Scamacca. His employer, on the other hand, have lowered the asking price to €45m.

There’s still a distance of €10m between the two clubs, but the report states ‘it is getting closer’.
