Hugo Lloris could be in line for a surprise move to Real Madrid as a replacement for Thibaut Courtois after he was ruled out with a ligament injury.

That’s according to L’Equipe, who name the goalkeeper among a list of options the Spanish giants could turn to as they now seek out a new number one.

Courtois is expected to miss the majority, if not all of the season through injury after being injured during pre-season, a major blow to Madrid, who do not have an experience deputy to replace him.

They’re now scrambling and looking at their options to replace him, a difficult task considering they would rather not spend big money to do so.

That is where Lloris comes into the mix according to L’Equipe. He remains at Tottenham, where he has a year left on his current deal, but is likely to be number two this season after the arrival of Guglielmo Vicario.

The French goalkeeper has made it clear publicly that he considers his time at Tottenham is over and wishes to leave, but so far hasn’t found any suitors to make that happen.

He’s on the lookout for an ‘attractive project and Real Madrid would certainly represent that given their standing in the game and the fact they play in the Champions League.

L’Equipe believe the Tottenham man could quite easily cover the ‘urgent need’ for a new goalkeeper at the Bernabeu while they would provide him with a ‘vibrant’ end to his career to boot.

Whether there is a deal there to be done remains to be seen but Madrid are in need and Lloris wants out, so there’s two reasons already.
