Despite the confidence from the Portuguese press that Alfa Semedo is on his way to Wigan Athletic, it looks like the transfer isn’t happening so quickly.

Newspaper A Bola is the only one with some updates on the situation today, and they claim the player is expected to move to England ‘in the next few days’.

They report the midfielder joined the Benfica squad this week, even though he knew he wasn’t part of the club’s plans for next season.

The player had been used by manager Rui Vitória, but now with Bruno Lage in charge, he wouldn’t have a spot in the Eagles’ squad.

Semedo started last season for Benfica, and even made three appearances in the Champions League. In January, he was loaned to Espanyol, where he couldn’t get much playing time and only had three games.

Now he hopes that at Wigan, he gets to play again.

His loan at the Catalan side had no buying option, so perhaps the Latics won’t be getting one either.
