Former Everton midfielder Davy Klaassen has told the Dutch media he feels like he’s got a new opportunity at Werder Bremen.

Last week the Netherlands international signed for the Bundesliga side after just one season at Goodison Park.

Voetbol International have covered comments Klaassen made to Fox Sports this weekend: “I have not actually trained once, but I played two matches and finished one time. The way of Werder Bremen is very different from that of Everton, that is also one of the reasons that I came here. The coach wants to play attacking football with a lot of possession.

‘If you go to a club, you know that you have to show something. You are not bought for nothing. This feels like a new opportunity. New round, new opportunities.”

Klaassen signed for Everton from Ajax last summer for £23m, but the Dutchman failed to make an impact during his time in England.

Brought in by Ronald Koeman, he struggled to get games under the former Everton manager, and this continued under caretaker boss David Unsworth and then Sam Allardyce.

Throughout the summer the player has been linked with a move away from the Merseyside club, with Besiktas also reported to be in the running for the central midfielder.

Werder Bremen eventually ended his time at Everton when they signed him for £12m.

Klaassen scored on his debut for the Bundesliga club, which isn’t a bad way to go about starting things.
