Valencia regional newspaper Super Deportivo report that Mat Ryan is now ‘one step away’ from signing for Brighton and Hove Albion. The Premier League newcomers will be looking to strengthen their squad to help avoid a struggle next season, and Ryan has been identified as a target.

Super Deporte say a fee has been agreed between Brighton and Valencia for €6m, and now all that’s missing is the agreement of the player. The newspaper have asked their readers, mostly Valencia supporters, if selling Ryan to Brighton would be the right plan, and 68% agree that it is.

Ryan joined Valencia from Club Brugge in 2015 and at the time he was highly rated but, as for many before him, Valencia has proven to be a stalling point in his career. With a fresh start needed, there had been suggestions of the Austrlian returning to Belgian football, but the finances weren’t agreeable.

Brighton is a good opportunity for Ryan, and it would be no surprise if he agrees.
