RC Lens captain Seko Fofana was on the agenda of Leeds United and Newcastle United in the winter market.

Last month, Foot Mercato journalist Santi Aouna stated the Whites showed ‘real interest’ in signing the midfielder.

A deal to take him to Elland Road in the January window didn’t take shape and the 26-year-old will finish the season with the Ligue 1 side.

Describing the Ivory Coast international’s importance to Lens, another report from Foot Mercato now describes him as a ‘jack of all trades for this team of which he is the leader’.

It’s also highlighted the former Manchester City academy graduate could have left the French club in the last window, but he decided to continue at Lens.

Fofana’s current deal runs down in 2024 and it’s claimed he should have several offers in the summer. However, the player is not focusing on his future beyond this campaign.

“To be honest, nothing is impossible. Today, I can very well say yes (stay at Lens) and tomorrow it will be no,” Foot Mercato quoted Fofana as saying.

“There are a lot of parameters and we don’t control everything. I am very happy to be here. We try to go as far as possible and I remain focused on this end of the season. I hope we will go as far as possible.”

Marcelo Bielsa’s side showed interest in Fofana in January and if they are still looking at him in the summer, Leeds, would be delighted to know his future is open.
