Barcelona’s Sergi Roberto has been on Manchester City’s radar over the past few years.

Last summer, we covered claims made in the Catalan press that the Premier League winners had initiated talks in signing the 30-year-old. However, no deal took place and he is still at the Camp Nou, where his contract expires at the end of the season.

Back in October, reports from Spain indicated the Citizens have shown interest in Roberto, who can operate as a right-back or in the midfield.

Fast forward to February and Fichajes.net now claim Pep Guardiola ‘does not forget’ about the Spain international.

The ‘stagnation of negotiation’ for the renewal in recent weeks means he could be forced to look for a new club after this season and the Etihad could be his next destination.

Guardiola has always liked Roberto and therefore, the English champions tried signing him a few times in the past.

On one occasion, the website explains the Manchester club made a €50m offer. However, the Spaniard then wanted to continue at Barcelona and the Blaugrana’s demands were also too high.

The situation will be different in the next window as it would be much easier for City. After ‘several failures’, there will be a ‘new attempt’ as they could ‘seek to negotiate the arrival at zero cost’.

Without a renewal, Roberto cannot continue at Barcelona and Guardiola’s side would be one of the best possible solutions for him in the summer.
