Norwich City and West Bromwich Albion are both fighting for the signing of São Paulo midfielder Gabriel Sara, according to claims from Brazil.

Globo Esporte today states the Canaries and Baggies have both made bids to sign the 23-year-old.

The story doesn’t make it clear how much Norwich City or West Brom offered, or if the attempts are identical. It’s just claimed the bids could reach as much as £10.6m.

The report is quite positive about the player’s potential move to the Championship, stating there’s expectation for the deal to be done in the coming weeks, with ‘optimism’ from the player.

However, Norwich City or West Brom may still have to wait a little, because according to Globo Esporte, it’s not yet defined if the player would move now or finish the South American season at São Paulo and move to England in January.

Either way, Gabriel Sara wouldn’t be ready to play so soon, given he’s been recovering from an ankle injury since April, and will only return to training in August.

Globo Esporte highlight São Paulo’s need to sell some of their players, and that should definitely help the Canaries or Baggies to find a deal for the move.
