Excel Mouscron welcomed Belgian champions Anderlecht on Saturday evening, and the visitors won the match 2-1.

In the stands were official visitors from several clubs around Europe, and Newcastle United were among them, report Anderlecht Online. It’s likelier whoever Newcastle are watching is on the Anderlecht team, and it’s not a strange trip for the club to make.

Newcastle United have in recent seasons signed Aleksandar Mitrović from Anderlecht, and also Chancel Mbemba, neither of which have particularly been relied upon by manager Rafael Benitez.

Matz Sels, currently on loan at Anderlecht from Newcastle, was brought in from Gent, but he was only on the bench on Saturday and it’s unlikely the club are interested in trying an early loan return.

Newcastle United are certainly keeping a close eye on Belgium right now, and on Friday night had an official at the match between RSC Charleroi and KV Mechelen.

The reasoning for repeatedly looking at Belgium is likely because, generally, prices there haven’t risen to the levels of France’s Ligue 1 just yet.
