As the Italian media continues to talk about AC Milan’s interest in Lille defender Sven Botman, they just can’t ignore the potential competition from Newcastle United.

Today we get to see a piece from Repubblica talking about the transfer market, and with the Rossoneri looking to land a defender in January, the ‘dream’ of signing the 21-year-old shows up again.

However, it’s pointed out that Milan would struggle to afford Botman’s transfer, as Lille demand €30m. Then comes the other problem, which is Newcastle’s competition, now described as ‘scary’.

The Italian media sounds pretty sure that the Magpies are going for the Dutchman, as claims last week said an offer from the Premier League side ‘should arrive shortly’.

At that time, it was Calcio Mercato who came up with similar claims. They said Milan consider the player’s €30-35m price ‘excessive’ and that Newcastle would soon come forward for his move.

There’s no doubt the Rossoneri don’t like the idea of facing the Magpies in an auction for the player. Now for that to happen, both clubs must make their move, and they don’t seem to have done it so far.
