Following recent reports from the English media claiming Barcelona have set Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimarães as a ‘priority’ for the next transfer window, we now see the Brazilian press saying the Magpies won’t let him go so easily.

TNT Sports comes up with a story claiming Eddie Howe’s side are ‘aware’ of the interest in the player, and are actually ready to make a move to convince him of staying.

It’s said Newcastle plan to give Bruno Guimarães a pay raise just to make sure he continues with the club for longer, and the first contacts with him have already been made.

The Magpies are said to be looking to make him ‘one of the highest paid’ athletes in the Premier League, even though the talks should only happen after the World Cup, which is what the player will be focusing on right now.

Last week, TNT Sports had already featured an ‘exclusive story’ claiming that Chelsea, Liverpool and Real Madrid have all ‘expressed concrete interest’ in signing Bruno Guimarães.

So it seems the race for him is only growing, and the way Newcastle will use to stop his departure is by giving him a better contract.
