Real Madrid have a lot of business ahead of them in the summer window, report AS on Monday.

Los Blancos will need to raise money before they can think of big signings themselves, and they have a collection of players who they could cash in on. Ten players are in the picture for exits, including several on loan, but Raphael Varane could be the biggest name to leave the club.

The defender’s contract expires at the end of next season, and without a renewal in sight there’s been repeat claims of a transfer. Manchester United have been the club most linked, and Chelsea have also been dragged into the picture.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are thought to be looking for a new man to partner Harry Maguire, and their need would perhaps seem more urgent than that of Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea.

Nevertheless, AS report Manchester United ‘will fight’ the Blues to secure the Frenchman’s signing. Once again the figure of €70m is suggested as a transfer fee, however, the only way Real Madrid will get so much is if such a ‘fight’ is genuine, given the player’s contract situation.

That’s why the Spanish media are happy to talk up the idea of a battle between Manchester United and Chelsea.
