Ilkay Gundogan loves a contract drama.

The midfielder repeatedly dragged Borussia Dortmund towards the end of his deals so he could get the best possible financial package. Then a short extension would be signed so that the same could happen in the not too distant future.

It’s been a similar situation at Manchester City, and Gundogan now has just months left on his deal at the Etihad. There have been talks over a renewal, although it appears like the club and their player are far apart.

Friday’s edition of Sport covers things from a Barcelona perspective, with the Blaugrana being keen on signing the player.

They say Manchester City have offered a short contract and a reduced salary to Gundogan, who will turn 33-years-of-age in October.

That isn’t good enough for the player’s camp and it’s explained negotiations have almost completely collapsed. Leaders at Manchester City ‘are convinced’ Gundogan will be leaving at the end of the season, because they’re just not willing to meet his demands.

Barcelona aren’t willing to match the figures requested either, so there’s likely going to have to be some compromise along the way.
