Julen Lopetegui is likely to want some form of control over transfers at Wolverhampton Wanderers should he take the manager’s position as expected.

The Spanish coach has again been linked with the vacant position at Molineux this week, with reports in Spain stating that he has cleared the personal issues that stopped him taking up the job last month.

He is now expected to be announced as Bruno Lage’s long-term replacement sooner rather than later but that is likely to come with conditions.

Vamos Mi Sevilla report today that Lopetegui has started to ‘throw shade’ at former club Sevilla, dropping small bits of information about why his time at the club turned so sour.

According to various sources, the Basque coach has made it clear that none of the signings he proposed in the summer to the club’s Sporting Directorate ended up being signed.

Furthermore, he did not understand the things that were being done in the planning and the players that were being signed. That seemingly led to problems on and off the pitch and his eventual departure.

It also serves as a warning to Wolves, with it likely that Lopetegui would want some form of control over transfers should he take charge at Molineux.

It’s an issue that they’ll need to be aware of, although given he is represented by Jorge Mendes and the Portuguese agent has a huge amount of control over transfers at the club there shouldn’t be too much friction.

It’s likely something that has already been discussed and cleared up between the pair, but certainly worth keeping an eye on if it becomes clear Lopetegui isn’t getting the signings he wants.
