West Ham United may have been handed their chance to sign Youssef En-Nesyri, with the striker now opening the door to a departure from Sevilla.
Marca have an interview with the Moroccan today in which he very firmly leaves the door open to a departure, and that should interest the Hammers.
West Ham have long been interested in En-Nesyri, trying to sign him on two separate occasions in the past, with one being rejected by the club and the second the following January seeing the player decide against it.
He’s always maintained he was happy where he is, but circumstances have changed and, as well as no longer being the favourite he once was, Sevilla are desperate to sell this summer to help cover a huge hole in their finances.
That’s opened up an opportunity for West Ham to get one of their long-term targets and a move would certainly make sense, with their squad still lacking the striker that it needs.
The question is whether En-Nesyri would think differently about a proposal this time around, but his latest comments suggest that he might.
“At the moment I’m not thinking about anything,” he said.
“What I think is to have a good year and stay with my head held high in Sevilla. If I go or not, I go in the end? The most important thing for me are the remaining matches.
“I have no idea if it’s my last (derby) or not. I’m going to play with the desire to beat Betis and leave the fans with a joy for the result in the derby.”
Not the words of a man who knows he’ll be staying where he is then, and some perhaps West Ham should take note of, even if their focus appears to be on a new manager for now.
