Everton midfielder Amadou Onana remains on Barcelona’s list for the summer, but the Toffees demands are making a move unlikely.
That’s according to Sport, who say Barcelona director of football Deco is a big fan of the Belgian midfielder.
Onana has been enjoying a steady rise at Everton since arriving from Lille in 2022, establishing himself as a Premier League player and regularly shining with the Belgian national team too.
He’s long been linked with a move away from Goodison Park as a result, with many believing he’ll depart Everton this summer as they need to sell players to help solve PSR issues.
Barcelona have been credited with an interest in months as they need to sign a defensive midfielder and Sport explain that remains the case.
They’re focusing on that position now Xavi has decided to stay and combing the market for options, which is a difficult task as their own financial situation and La Liga’s salary rules make life difficult for them.
The favourite to be signed is Real Betis’ Guido Rodriguez as he’s available on a free transfer but Onana remains in the list as Deco ‘likes him a lot’.
The problem is that Everton have ‘high expectations’ if any transfer is to happen and that complicates any potential arrival at the Camp Nou. In simpler terms, Everton are demanding a big price for the Belgian and Barcelona can’t afford it.
That should put an end to any chance of that deal happening then, unless there’s some creative way Barcelona can convince Everton.
