Union Berlin need to sign a midfielder in the January transfer window as Leeds United loanee Brenden Aaronson is not the answer to their problems.
That’s according to BZ Berlin, who cover the club’s potential transfer needs today and how Aaronson is continuing to create more doubt than anything else.
The American joined Union on loan in the summer, making a quick, temporary exit from Leeds following relegation to the Championship.
The hope had been that he could bounce back from a difficult year in England with a Champions League club in the Bundesliga, a division where plenty of young players have found their feet down the years.
That’s not proven to be the case, though, as he and Union have struggled, and several reports have made it clear he’s not the player the German side were hoping for.
BZ Berlin cover that today and how the Bundesliga side need to overcome their ‘lowest point’ and potentially fix the squad in January.
They say that while on paper the club are ‘well positioned’ in midfield, particularly in terms of numbers, the fact is that ‘quantity does not mean quality’.
This has particularly been the case in attacking midfield where neither Janik Haberer nor Brenden Aaronson were able to show that they are ‘the solution to the problems’.
The club need to find ‘immediate reinforcements’ to bolster the squad, particularly in attack and in midfield as the Leeds man is one of several signings who simply haven’t worked out and left Union battling relegation.
