Throughout this summer there have been various updates on the future of Real Betis youngster Junior Firpo.

Like Giovani Lo Celso, the left-back has plenty of interest in him after impressing for the La Liga side last season.

Both Liverpool and Tottenham have been credited with interest, while Barcelona were thought to be competing with the pair of them. It appears the latter have won the race.

Marca report today that Barca are ‘very close’ to completing the signing of the 22-year-old. The club’s management have followed him for a while and he is the first on the list of potential backups to Jordi Alba.

The newspaper reports that Betis want €50m (It’s been reported as €30m in Seville) for the youngster but are willing to negotiate on that price having already signed his replacement in Alfonso Pedraza.

The two clubs have a good working relationship and Barca may even use Marc Cucurella or Juan Miranda to sweeten the deal and bring Betis’ asking price down.

All roads point towards Firpo ending up at the Nou Camp, with Marca saying he ‘fits perfectly with what is asked of a side in the Camp Nou’. If Liverpool and Tottenham are truly interested, they may have to move quickly to ensure this isn’t a move they end up missing out on.
