A couple of days ago, we covered reports from the Netherlands saying Liverpool would have scouts watching Villarreal winger Arnaut Danjuma in the Champions League match against Manchester United.

With the Reds already interested in signing the 24-year-old, they’d now see him in action at Old Trafford, where he in fact had a good performance, often creating trouble for the Red Devils’ right side of defence.

Now it turns out that wasn’t the only match scouted by Liverpool last night. Because according to the Portuguese media, the Anfield side also had an official watching Benfica’s match versus Barcelona.

Newspaper A Bola reports that the Reds had a scout watch the Eagles’ 3-0 win over the Catalan club, even though there are no details on who the target for the scouting trip was.

In case Liverpool were indeed looking for a left winger, they may have had a pleasant surprise. With Benfica playing a 3-5-2 formation, striker Darwin Nunez covered the left side of attack, and had a superb display. With two goals, the Argentine player was the main figure in the Eagles’ win, having now scored six times this season.

Of course there was a lot more for the Reds to see, with talents such as Lucas Veríssimo, Julian Weigl and Rafa Silva all doing a superb job in a performance which meant a lot for the Lisbon side. In a night full of positive reports, some will certainly weigh on Liverpool’s transfer plans.
