Leeds United were reportedly one of the clubs who had officials at the Champions League clash between Benfica and Barcelona last night.

According to Portuguese newspaper A Bola, the Whites were among the 30 European sides who had emissaries keeping an eye on the Eagles’ 3-0 win.

The outlet doesn’t have any details on who Leeds United were watching, although Benfica’s performance was pretty much a menu full of talents to choose for.

It’s of course impossible to talk about the result without highlighting Darwin Nunez. The striker scored a brace, besides hitting the post, and was the Eagles’ key figure for such an important win.

But there was plenty of more to see last night. Another player who stood out was Rafa Silva, who led Benfica’s creative sector, scored a goal and was given the max rating from newspaper O Jogo.

Midfielders Julian Weigl and João Mário were responsible for the Eagles’ control in the middle of the park, while defenders Nicolas Otamendi and Lucas Veríssimo were those who stopped Barça’s attack.

We could probably say all those players are realistic targets for Leeds United and Premier League clubs, even though Darwin’s price is certainly going sky high, while the likes of Nicolas Otamendi and João Mário already had their chances in England.

There’s also the possibility Leeds had their eye on someone from Barcelona, although there were obviously no players who managed to shine. Either way, the Whites have started their transfer planning ahead of future windows.
