Ahead of pretty much every Champions League match in Madrid there’s trouble in the city. It’s a popular away destination for fans all over Europe and the city’s open squares and terrace bars lend themselves perfectly to a day well spent.

The Spanish press have described English football fans as hooligans for years. To give them the benefit of the doubt, it may well be a description of what they would term ‘ultras’, but Spanish journalists are aware of the controversy around the word and have continued to use it anyway.

Ahead of many English clubs taking their fans to Madrid especially, there are claims of hooligans being set to invade. That hasn’t been the case with Leicester City, with the media having a positive slant on the Premier League champions.

The goodwill may be slipping away, and Marca report that the ‘more radical and drunk’ among Leicester’s support clashed with police on Tuesday. The were ‘eight ‘hooligans’ Screen Shot 2017-04-12 at 10.05.37arrested’ and detained, and four injuries.

There are no reports of more serious trouble, but Leicester City fans can expect police to be tough around the stadium, because that’s simply what happens in Madrid.

Marca round off their online article by saying: ‘With everything controlled in the area, the less violent fans continued with songs from the terraces of the restaurants of the square.’
