The fullness of the relationship between Leeds United and Aspire remains something of a mystery.

Fans and journalists have tried to get some clarity from the club on the nature of the partnership and what it may involve in the future, but it seems there’s either a lot of smoke and mirrors, Leeds themselves aren’t yet sure, or it’s all a great big secret.

Just over a week ago we covered a Spanish report which said Qatar had invested in Leeds United as part of the country’s big movement into the sport world, but there wasn’t any further on it.

In Spain, Leeds’ relationship with Aspire has always been reported as a bigger thing than in England. It was also reported first, through the Cultural link, so way before it was widely accepted in the English media, Leeds’ Aspire relationship was a known thing in Spain.

Leeds United youth teams have recently been to Qatar for an Aspire event, and Gulf Times has got comments from the club’s academy director Adam Underwood: “Our participation is part of our existing and ongoing partnership with Aspire Academy.

“Both our institutions are very much focused on youth development and we intend to explore further areas of cooperation for our mutual benefit as we seek to identify and nurture talented young footballers capable of successfully playing at the top level for their clubs and countries.”

Again, all very fluffy, but sooner or later, Leeds United are going to have to give some clarity on the partnership. The Cultural link alone suggests it’s more than simply information and contact sharing.
