Despite having played for a handful of Premier League clubs, Moussa Sissoko has never played for Liverpool.

He has played against them 17 times, as he recounted in an interview with La Dépêche du Midi, even if he only ever won three of those, drawing two and losing the other 12 games.

The now Nantes midfielder sat down with the newspaper on Thursday to discuss the upcoming clash between his former club, Toulouse, and Liverpool in the Europa League, which is when he revealed how close he had been to signing for the Anfield side at one point in his career.

The tidbit of information was pulled out of him by the outlet, who asked him whether there was any truth in the rumours that he had ‘nearly signed’ with Liverpool in the early stages of his career.

He replied: “In any case, there had been talks, before I turned professional at Toulouse. You know the rest…”

The now 34-year-old spent 10 years at the Ligue 1 club between 2003 and 2013, before he moved to Newcastle for a paltry fee of €2m.

He then made his way to Tottenham, before joining Watford five years later and eventually ending up in his current club, Nantes, for the same fee as his first big transfer.

As for the upcoming game between Toulouse and Liverpool, for those wondering, he’s being very optimistic and reckons the French side can somehow walk away with a 3-1 win.
