Rumours linking Feyenoord striker Santiago Giménez with a potential move to Chelsea are wide of the mark and nothing more than him being overrated.

That’s according to journalist Fernando Palomo, who has poured cold water all over the potential transfer amid reports this week.

Giménez has been impressing in the Netherlands since joining Feyenoord in a €6m deal from Cruz Azul in July last year.

He went on to bag 28 goals and three assists in 50 games in all competitions for Feyenoord last season as they went on to win the Eredivisie title.

He’s started this season in equally good form with five goals in five games in all competitions, leading to further belief that he is in for another strong campaign.

Those kinds of numbers have immediately led to a raft of reports about his future, with Chelsea brought into the mix of late.

They remain in the market for a centre forward after failing to add in that position over the last year, despite Todd Boehly and co spending huge sums completely overhauling the squad.

Giménez would fall into their remit of targeting younger players given he is 22 years old, but Palomo is having none of the rumour.

“This is a question that I am not going to explain to you, nor am I going to tell you the story,” he said.

“And the fact is that a Mexican has a good dribble, and they want to sell him to Real Madrid. And that’s what happened with Santi Giménez.”
