Athletic Club president Jon Uriarte has confirmed they are working hard to get Nico Williams signed to a new deal as Liverpool continue to look at a potential move for him.

AS cover the comments from the president today regarding the forward, who has been heavily linked with a move away throughout the summer.

WIliiams is seen as one of the rising stars of Spanish football and, with his contract set to expire next summer, there is now a long line of suitors eyeing him up.

Liverpool are one of them, with several reports over the last few weeks making it clear they are keeping a close eye on the player, particularly as Mohamed Salah continues to be linked with a move to Saudi Arabia.

A report yesterday indicated how Williams is considered ready for the Premier League, and that followed a report earlier this month indicating that the Reds had already made contact about a transfer.

AS back that up, stating that Liverpool are ‘on the prowl’ but if Uriarte has anything to do with it, he won’t be going anywhere.

“Nico, like his family, Iñaki, his mother, are very happy in Bilbao,” he said.

“They love Athletic. They love our project. We are working hard on both sides so that he can stay.”
