Gerard Deulofeu is currently away on Spain duty, which means the Everton owned player is very much back in the Spanish media. A good start to his loan at AC Milan, and a great cameo for Spain against France, saw Deulofeu’s status rise.

At one point it was suggested he could find a meaningful role at Barcelona, but AC Milan were ready to break the bank for a player who was being styled as their new Kaka. Things calmed down quickly, and now Deulofeu faces a trickier reality.

Barcelona are still keen, but almost entirely because he’s cheap. The €6m buyback option which Barca hold with Everton warrants consideration, but there’s genuine doubt over the role Deulofeu would actually play.

In May, Milan started their positioning, with claims in Italy the club won’t pay over the odds, have other targets, and don’t believe Deulofeu is indispensable.

Everton and Ronald Koeman are said to be against a Goodison Park return, so the future is unclear for Deulofeu.

The player isn’t letting that get to him.

Quoted by Mundo Deportivo, Deulofeu said: “First I want to focus on the two matches of the senior Spain team and then the Europeans with the U21s and then have to choose the best option. I am calm and everything will work out, for sure.”
